“I have fame on the level of a Marilyn Monroe or an Elvis, but part of the reason I didn’t go the way they did was because of my beliefs. People make judgments about it [Scientology], but often they don’t know what they’re talking about. I would advise anyone who wants to know about it to read up on it. We [the Church of Scientology] are only getting bigger and we help people all over the world, from disaster zones to drug rehabilitation. We were having a problem in Germany [where some critics called Scientology a money-making entity rather than a religion]. I talked to [former president Bill] Clinton who talked to Chancellor Kohl and things have improved since then.”

Comment by Jamama April 17, 2007 @ 2:16 pmHis big mistake was to advise people to read up on Scientology. Anyone who takes the time to read up on that sordid organization will
Comment by spinner April 17, 2007 @ 2:25 pmthe lives it ruined, the bankruptcies & deaths. Hell, just read L Ron Hubbard’s biography & your skin will crawl.

go fly one of your jets John. STFU about your crazy asses “religion”
Comment by parissucksliterally April 17, 2007 @ 2:42 pmHe has a point. Everyone knows that celebrities who die young become way more famous than if they lived out their lives into old age. If he was drinking and drugging and died some time in the 80’s, he’d probably be a huge culutral icon as well. He was massive in the 70’s.
Comment by Ice Queen April 17, 2007 @ 2:44 pmI would love to see what the Franklin Mint would include in a John Travolta commemorative plate collection. Welcome Back Kotter? Look Who’s Talking Now? Battlefield Earth? Wild Hogs?
Comment by Ridwah April 17, 2007 @ 3:11 pmthat’s bullshit, Chancellor Kohl is no longer in power what could he have done for them. people still are afraid of their freaky “religion”

Comment by lolly April 17, 2007 @ 4:16 pmI feel my faith has helped me in life, but I don’t try to push it on others. That’s the problem with these Scientolgists, they try to cram it down others throats.
Everything I’ve read says there are 2 Scientologies. One that the famous subscribe to and it allows them to put a successful face on the church and another that the regular people do which has much more creepy undertones.

I’m not a big fan of his, but I agree. He’s an icon just for Saterday Night Fever, and then Pulp Fiction. An icon is when EVERYONE knows who you are, and he has that.

Comment by toonkinstein April 17, 2007 @ 7:16 pmSheeeesh. When did he start making my skin crawl? I think it may have been around the time he bought a tea set for Oprah. One strange man, just like his buddy Tom Cruise.
Comment by me April 17, 2007 @ 8:31 pmMr. Travolta fails to realize that respect is not a given just because of worldwide recognition. And I personally don’t respect this freak.
Comment by Brandy April 18, 2007 @ 12:06 amwhen i think about it its not crazy tom or smug john or all the freakish rumors that has made me hate scientology.
last year there was a devastating cyclone up where my family is and an entire town pretty much lost their houses. scientologists set up tents in the middle of town and harassed the vunerable victims.
they are bloodsucking opportunists on a scale much worse than any other organised religion.
